Critics’ top 2024 films
‘Perfect Days,’ Our ongoing list of 2024’s top films includes ‘Sasquatch Sunset,’ ‘Love Lies Bleeding,’ and ‘Civil War.
Why should one wait till the end of the year to make a decision about which movies are the best? The reviewers and contributors of The Washington Post have already awarded a number of films with three stars or more. These critics and contributors include Ann Hornaday, Ty Burr, Amy Nicholson, Jen Yamato, Jessica Kiang, Michael O’Sullivan, Mark Jenkins, and Michael Brodeur, whose initials are shown below.
You should save this list because we will be updating it throughout the year with the movies that we enjoyed watching and the locations where you can watch them. (Take note that any and all films that were reviewed by The Post in the year 2024 are eligible for inclusion.)
Composer and director Alex Garland does not study the origins of this conflict, the length of time it has been going on, or whether or not it is worthwhile to continue fighting that war. His film is about the ethics of photographing violence, and those blinders make it push forward with gusto. His film is lean and nasty. The movie has a beautiful and profoundly true feel to it, even when it is saying that people are more likely to tear one other apart over trivial grievances than they are over a sincere defense of some kind of beliefs. With Kristen Dunst, Wagner Moura, and Cailee Spaeny in the lead roles. It is 109 minutes long. It was Amy Nicholson.

Rivalry parties
A tennis-themed romantic triangle that is slick, seductive, and enormously entertaining. It features three young performers who are at the top of their game and, under the direction of Luca Guadagnino, a director who gives them room to swing in every meaning of the term. In spite of the fact that the majority of the film’s pleasures are surface-level — grass, clay, and emotions — it has been far too long since we’ve had an intelligent frolic like this. The film is a paean to hard work and hedonism to be honest. The characters of Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor are emerging tennis stars, while Zendaya plays the role of their coach. Zendaya’s feverishly furrowed brow is serving as the center of attention. It is 131 minutes long. This is Ty Burr.
