Nickelodeon star Devon Werkheiser issued an apology to Drake Bell and other Nick actors on Tuesday. Following backlash for his jokes on a new documentary series that brought attention to allegations of abuse on several Nick shows
In a TikTok livestream that aired on Tuesday, Werkheiser—who played Ned in Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide”—seemed to make fun of Bell.
X has a footage of Werkheiser’s TikTok broadcast in which he says, “Get back in your hole, Daniel,” and inserts a pornographic joke. As of Tuesday morning, the video had 4.7 million views.
“Apologies, but this is ridiculous,” Werkheiser went on to say. We ought not to do that…. Pay attention, that is not how our set was. And no, it’s absolutely terrible. Hearing about the Drake Bell is really mind-boggling. In order to make sense of everything, Werkheiser said he employs comedy.
The two-part March 17 and 18 episodes of “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” were shown by Investigation Discovery. Several former child stars who worked with producer Dan Schneider have come out with accusations of abuse and a hostile work environment. “All That,” “The Amanda Show,” “Drake and Josh,” and “iCarly” are among the many smash hits that Schneider has produced for the network.
The docuseries delves into the alleged sexual abuse case involving former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck and the anonymous child involved, which includes “Drake and Josh” actor Drake Bell. In 2004, Peck entered a not-guilty plea and received a 16-month prison term. When asked for remark, Peck remained silent.
According to Schneider’s former spokesman, who talked with NBC News, the former Nickelodeon executive admitted to being “a tough boss to work for” but denied any wrongdoing during an investigation that followed his departure. According to Bell’s account in the documentary series, Schneider stood by him following the alleged abuse.
“Drake Bell has disclosed his identity as the plaintiff in the 2004 case. We are dismayed and saddened to learn of the trauma he has endured. We commend and support the strength required to come forward,” a representative from Nickelodeon told NBC News earlier.
Using the TikTok account for his podcast “Ned’s Declassified Podcast Survival Guide,” which he co-hosts with Lindsey Shaw and Daniel Curtis Lee, Werkheiser was livestreaming from his program. Shaw got a cameo in the video as well.
