NC State women’s basketball loses Final Four against South Carolina.

NC State women’s basketball loses Final Four against South Carolina.

You would never be able to tell the odds against the NC State women’s basketball team throughout the first half of their game on Friday in the Final Four.

The Wolfpack showed out to play despite the fact that they were labeled as 11.5-point underdogs as well as the fact that they were going up against the unbeaten South Carolina Gamecocks. Although North Carolina State was behind for the majority of the first half, the deficit was never greater than two possessions at any point during the game. Following the conclusion of the first quarter, the score was tied, and by the time the first half was up, South Carolina was only ahead by a single point.

On the other hand, by the second half, the bottom had dropped out. At the beginning of the third quarter, South Carolina made seven of its first nine shots, which allowed them to extend their advantage to twelve points before the media timeout. Despite this, the Gamecocks continued to build their lead, which reached as much as 24 points before the quarter was up. The stoppage did not seem to have any effect on them.

North Carolina State was defeated by South Carolina by a score of 78-59, putting an end to the Wolfpack’s pursuit of a national championship in Cleveland, Ohio. South Carolina was virtually on cruise control from that point on.

Demise sealed in third quarter

It was only due to a missed free throw by Mimi Collins that the Wolfpack (31-7) were behind at the conclusion of the first half. The Gamecocks (37-0) breezed past NC State in the third quarter, despite the fact that they had kept the game tight for the first two quarters.

The once-dominant defense of the Wolfpack allowed 29 points to be scored on 60 percent shooting, while the offense was unable to even begin to make up for the deficit the defense created. The Wolfpack were only able to score six points in the third quarter thanks to South Carolina’s defense, which only allowed them to make one shot, which was a layup by Aziaha James.

Rivers flat vs. former team

Saniya Rivers had a chance to make a statement against her old team, but she couldn’t tap into her regular-season form on Friday. The All-ACC guard and former Gamecock made just one of her first nine shots, finishing the game with just five points and five turnovers

March Madness, NCAA Final Four, and NC State vs. Purdue basketball predictions are in!

On Saturday (6:09 p.m. ET, TBS), the No. 11 seed from the 2024 NCAA Tournament, North Carolina State, will play in the Final Four versus the No. 1 seed from Purdue.

State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona will host the first national semifinal matchup between the Wolfpack (26-14) and the Boilermakers (33-4).

With victories over Duke, Marquette, Texas Tech, and Oakland, North Carolina State advanced to its first Final Four since 1983, when it won the national title. For the first time since 1980, Purdue has made it to the Final Four.

Before North Carolina State and West Virginia meet in the Final Four, here are a few things you should know, as well as my score prediction. On Monday for the national championship, the victor will face either fourth-seeded Alabama (25-11) or top-seeded UConn (35-3).

A titanic showdown pits DJ Burns of NC State against Zach Edey of Purdue

What happens when an unstoppable force collides with an object that lacks the ability to move? Zach Edey, a center who stands 7 feet 4 inches tall, will face DJ Burns, a forward who stands 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 275 pounds, in a heavyweight matchup this coming weekend. Over the course of NC State’s victory over Duke, Burns scored 29 points on 13 of 19 shots, and Edey scored 40 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the subsequent game against Tennessee. This next weekend, the United States of America will be paying close attention to this matchup.

THE SCOOP ON BRENTFORD VS. MANCHESTER UNITED

At Gtech Community Stadium, a thrilling climax saw Kristoffer Ajer’s close-range finish cancel out Mason Mount’s stoppage-time opening; Brentford dominated the game, scoring 29 shots; Thomas Frank: “This performance was one or two levels higher than the 4-0 win against them”

Brentford deserved a point against Manchester United on Saturday after Kristoffer Ajer scored his second goal in two outings.

The away team seized the lead against the flow of play six minutes into the extra time period, with replacement Mason Mount scooping the ball past Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken. However, Ajer converted Ivan Toney’s cutback three minutes later, resulting in a thrilling conclusion at Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford was denied two shots by the woodwork, bringing the score to a tie at the interval.

Thomas Frank made two changes to the team that lost narrowly at Burnley two weeks ago at Turf Moor.

The most noticeable addition was that of Yehor Yarmoliuk, who made his first start of the calendar year. The Ukrainian took Frank Onyeka’s place in the middle of the field.

In addition, Keane Lewis-Potter was brought back into the lineup to play left wing-back, taking the place of Sergio Reguilón, who was suspended.

Following their thrilling 4-3 victory against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals, Manchester United did not make any changes to their lineup.

Yarmoliuk did well to gain the byline and cut back looking for Jensen before the visitors evacuated the field. This was part of a cagey beginning that saw both teams have opportunities to score for themselves.

Marcus Rashford was the one who launched a counterattack for United shortly after that, but it was a move that ultimately resulted in Bruno Fernandes drawing the first opening for the away team off target.

The remainder of the half, as well as the entire encounter, was dominated by the Bees, who established themselves as the dominant team.

By putting in a lot of effort, Yoanne Wissa was able to take advantage of some lax defending on the part of the opposing team. He produced a low cross that Victor Lindelof had to clear.

Raphaël Varane, who was Lindelof’s partner in the central defense position, was subsequently had to return the favor as Brentford continued to exert pressure in an attempt to score the first goal of the evening.

The shot that Jensen took was blocked by Onana, and Ivan Toney’s free kick that was taken after a deft routine with Vitaly Janelt was successful in being cleared.

Almost immediately after that, Toney had the finest opportunity of the half. Nathan Collins exhibited a remarkable amount of vision in order to locate Wissa in space, and his flick around the corner allowed the England international to get close to the goal.

There was just Andre Onana to beat, and Toney’s effort came agonizingly back off the bottom of the keeper’s right-hand post. Meanwhile, United tried to clear the ball, and Wissa headed the corner that resulted in the shot missing the target.

A few seconds later, the woodwork would once again prevent Brentford from achieving the breakthrough that their exceptional start had more than justified.

In the end, Zanka’s thunderous back-post header came dangerously close to hitting the crossbar after a short corner routine that was played back to the original taker Jensen.

During the first half, Wissa had emerged as the embodiment of Brentford’s aspirations. It was on the outskirts of the home team’s territory when he won the ball back and then found Janelt using it.

The weighted ball that the German player threw over the top was ideal for the run of Toney, who left Lindelof on the ground as he cut inside and blasted just over the crossbar.

Onana had to be on his toes to save Lewis-Potter’s header from Ajer’s cross with the outside of his foot as the half came to a close. Janelt and Wissa both missed more attempts, and Onana had to be on his toes to stop the header. Frank’s team did not let up in their intensity.

Mount and Ajer score in Gtech finale drama.

THE SCOOP ON BRENTFORD VS. MANCHESTER UNITED

At the beginning of the second period, Brentford had a series of corners, and Diogo Dalot then curled a shot that went wide of the mark.

The strong run that Wissa made from within his own half resulted in a shot that went wide of the target, and Flekken made an outstanding stop to prevent Rasmus Højlund from scoring at the opposite end of the field.

Onana then denied Yarmoliuk, and Lewis-Potter attempted to make a rebound but was unsuccessful. In the midst of yet another extended period of Bees pressure, the wide player also failed to hit the target with his header from Jensen’s cross.

In the next opportunity to come and go, Toney’s volley from Jensen’s lofted through ball was the one that came and went. As the game entered its last twenty minutes, the number of home shots reached 23 thanks to a bicycle shot by Lewis-Potter contained within the area.

As part of the first two substitutions made by the home team, Bryan Mbeumo took the place of Wissa, while Mikel Damsgaard was brought in to replace the extremely remarkable Yarmoliuk.

On the 73rd minute, Toney finally had the ball in the net when he latched on to Mbeumo’s assist; however, the forward was not allowed to score because he was millimeters offside.

With seven minutes remaining on the clock, Mbeumo’s magnificent volley cannon would head back off the woodwork, and Toney would then hook the Cameroonian’s corner over the crossbar. Both of these events would result in Brentford being denied yet another opportunity.

The fourth official announced that there would be nine further minutes added to the game, and it appeared as though Frank’s team was about to suffer the most brutal of ends.

Mason Mount, who had just entered the game as a replacement, took advantage of a cross from Casemiro and curled the ball into the far corner to give the away team a lead that they had earned through their own good fortune.

But there was more late drama to come, and the Gtech quickly went from being filled with anguish to being filled with excitement.

Saman Ghoddos lofted the ball high into the penalty area of Manchester United, and Ivan Toney did an outstanding job of keeping the ball alive.

Ajer scored the goal in front of the south stand as the forward made his way to the byline and laid the ball on a plate for him to score. This resulted in the restoration of the much-deserved parity.

Despite the fact that there was still time for the Bees to try their luck once more, United was able to clear Neal Maupay’s deep cross, and referee Hooper brought an exciting match to a stop in the 104th minute.

The Brentford starting eleven consists of: Flekken, Roerslev, Zanka, Ajer, Collins, Lewis-Potter, Ghoddos (86), Jensen, Yarmoliuk (69), Janelt, Toney, Wissa (70), and Damsgaard.

Players substituted off: Onyeka, Baptiste, Ji-soo, Trevitt, and Strakosha.

After Martinez’s substitution in the 69th minute, Manchester United’s starting lineup consists of Onana, Dalot, Lindelof, Varane, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Mainoo, Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford, Anthony, Højlund.

All four of Heaton, Amrabat, Kambwala, and Erikse were benched.

Number of attendees: 17,138

In March Madness, Clemson basketball beats Baylor and goes to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Clemson basketball prevails over Baylor in the March Madness tournament and advances to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

In March Madness, Clemson basketball beats Baylor and goes to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

The Clemson Tigers basketball team defeated the third-seeded Baylor Bears by a score of 72-64 on Sunday at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. This victory allowed the Tigers to move to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in the history of the program when they defeated Baylor.

Because of their strong defense and timely scoring, the sixth-seeded Tigers (23-11) were able to defeat the Bears (24-11) and take advantage of the momentum they gained from their victory over New Mexico on Friday, which saw them win by 21 points.

In the Sweet 16 on Thursday, Clemson will compete against Arizona, which is ranked second with a record of 27-8.

Again, Clemson demonstrated that it is a master class by defying the statistics and the critics. Through the remarkable offensive play of Chase Hunter, which included a double-clutch running three-pointer at the buzzer, the team was able to build a 35-25 lead at the halftime break and maintain control for the majority of the remaining minutes of the game. However, in the waning minutes of the game, Baylor was able to narrow the margin to two points.

Joseph Girard III led the team in scoring with 13 points, while Hunter finished with 20 points and six assists.

With PJ Hall and Ian Schieffelin both in foul trouble, Clemson's basketball team delivers.

Makes it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament after edging off Baylor in March Madness
Greenville News reporter Derrian Carter

On Sunday at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, Clemson basketball advanced to the Sweet 16 for the seventh time in program history despite a near-collapse in the last minutes of the game. They defeated No. 3 seed Baylor 72-64.

The sixth-seeded Tigers (23-11) cruised past the Bears (24-11) thanks to their solid defense and timely scoring, continuing their winning streak that began on Friday with a 21-point victory over New Mexico.

On Thursday in Los Angeles, Clemson will take on No. 2 Arizona (27-8).

In yet another master class, Clemson shocked the experts and the numbers. Thanks to some outstanding play by Chase Hunter—including a double-clutch running 3-pointer at the buzzer—it was able to build a 35-25 lead at halftime and maintained that lead for the most of the game. Despite never taking the lead, Baylor managed to take it down to two in the dying minutes.

Both Joseph Girard III (13 points) and Hunter (20 points, 6 assists) had strong performances.

Stay up-to-date with all the latest NCAA tournament news, including brackets, results, schedules, and teams.

After Clemson’s first second-round victory since 2018, here are two things to remember.

With PJ Hall and Ian Schieffelin both in foul trouble, Clemson’s basketball team delivers.

After Hall fouled out in the second half, Hunter, Schieffelin, and Girard scored vital baskets to put an end to Baylor’s comeback attempt; Hall finished with 11 points in 20 minutes.

In March Madness, Clemson basketball beats Baylor and goes to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Baylor's 3-point shooting is stopped by Clemson.

After making 16 3-pointers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Bears were unable to continue their hot streak against New Mexico. After holding No. 14 seed Colgate to 53.3% from beyond the arc on Friday, Clemson held Baylor to only six 3-pointers, resulting in a 25% 3-point percentage.

The Tigers’ length on defense led to ten turnovers, four steals, and four blocks. During March Madness, their defense has been absolutely phenomenal, allowing only 60 points per game.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Preview: Holy Cross vs. UT Martin on Thursday

BY SIRAJ 22-03-2024

IOWA CITY — For a few days now, Iowa women’s basketball has known when and where it would play its first 2024 NCAA Tournament game.

Now the Hawkeyes know who they are playing.

In a matchup of 16 seeds, Holy Cross and UT Martin squared off at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday night for the chance to get a shot at the formidable Hawkeyes in the round of 64 of the NCAA Tournament.

Holy Cross earned that opportunity, knocking off UT Martin, 72-45.

“This group is so special and we love each other so much,” Holy Cross coach Maureen Magarity said. “We just didn’t want it to end. We didn’t want it to be our last practice. We didn’t want it to be our last shootaround. We didn’t want it to be our last game.”

Holy Cross stormed out to an early lead, making four 3-pointers by the first media break, and they never let up. There was not a single second that Thursday’s Crusaders were behind.

With a 46% field goal percentage and a 38% three-point percentage, Holy Cross put on a spectacular offensive show. Holy Cross, meanwhile, limited UT Martin to 26% shooting and 1% deep. As of Thursday, the Crusaders’ opponent scoring average was a mere 56.2 points per game. That figure only got better following Thursday’s impressive defensive performance.

NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Preview: Holy Cross vs. UT Martin on Thursday

BY SIRAJ 22-03-2024

Cara McCormack, the Holy Cross guard, was fantastic. She made 7-of-10 shots from beyond the arc, contributing to her 23 points. In her past twelve games, she has managed to score more than ten goals eight times.

On Thursday, Bronagh Power-Cassidy, another Holy Cross guard, displayed some skill, albeit inefficiently. On 6-of-15 shooting, Power-Cassidy scored fifteen points. Over her past nine games, she has scored in double digits on two separate occasions, with 30 points being her highest total. She hit a deep seven out of ten during one of her tantrums.

Holy Cross came into Thursday averaging less than 63 points per game and shooting 32.9% from outside the arc, so Thursday’s offensive performance was an improvement over their typical play.

On Thursday, though, McCormack and Power-Cassidy shown that they can make a game-winning play under pressure. Holy Cross has an experienced backcourt that Iowa’s guards like Gabbie Marshall, Caitlin Clark, and Sydney Affolter will have to slow down.

Coach Maureen Magarity of Holy Cross has done an outstanding job leading the program in her four years as head coach. For the third year in a row, the Crusaders finished with 20 victories. The 2022–23 season was Holy Cross’ second-most winningest in program history with 24 victories.

“I think something special about our team is that family atmosphere,” he added. And I think coach Magarity is the one to blame. She is very dear to all of us. She’s incredibly amiable. I also think it’s crucial that we have a close relationship with each of our coaches. Before games, I think we all look forward to seeing her. She inspired and energized us throughout the playoffs, and I think that was particularly true in this game.

Holy Cross is making its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance this year. Maryland defeated the Crusaders 93–61 in the previous season.

After defeating UT Martin, Holy Cross will face another Big Ten team in the Big Dance this season. However, there have been bumps in the road during the season. Cross had a winning streak of nine games at one time. Unfortunately, the club promptly began a losing streak that would last four games.

The Crusaders, on the other hand, hit their stride just when it mattered most, going on to win the regular season finale and three games in a row to win the Patriot League Tournament and secure their spot in the NCAA Tournament.

The Crusaders will face Iowa at 2 p.m. (ABC) on Saturday, riding a five-game winning streak after Thursday’s victory.

For their game against Iowa, “We have to fight and try to figure out ways to just get possessions,” Magarity stated. I can assure you that we will be well-prepared. We are prepared. Not to mention, it will be an incredible adventure. Having the chance to play on Saturday is, I think, a major accomplishment for everyone involved.

Many members of the Iowa women’s basketball team, including head coach Lisa Bluder and Clark, were in attendance at Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the first half of Thursday’s game.

Both Clark and the Iowa program have been the center of attention due to her meteoric rise to fame. Despite this, the Hawkeyes have fulfilled nearly all predictions, with the possible exception of winning the Big Ten regular season.

At this very moment, the Hawkeyes have an outstanding record of 29-4. Their recent hot streak included six victories, three of which were en route to a Big Ten Tournament championship. That includes the championship game against Nebraska, when, against all odds, they rallied to come back from an eight-point hole with under three minutes to go in regulation.

“I think our players have watched a lot of Caitlin Clark,” said Magarity. She has done so much for basketball in general and women’s basketball in particular, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Of course, we need to do our best to control her touching. However, even after that, she remains one of the greatest passers I’ve ever witnessed; she’s simply one of those rare, exceptional players. Thus, Caitlin is central, but the team’s success is also due to the many individuals she can pass the ball to.

However, the NCAA Tournament is a defining event for any team's heritage.

There’s still a ways to go, but Iowa will give it its all to do what it failed to do last year. With a loss to LSU, the Hawkeyes’ miraculous journey to the national championship game came to an end, despite their best efforts, which included defeating powerhouse South Carolina.

Is Clark’s supporting cast strong enough to hold their own? What if Clark isn’t able to handle it all by herself? Will there ever be a point where the pressure becomes too much?

Making it to Cleveland for the Final Four should be no picnic. But now Iowa has all the information they need to get started: this Saturday at Carver, they’ll play Holy Cross.

After a “bizarre” ending, the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers, and the arena announcer had to declare the shot clock

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in a “bizarre” conclusion, forcing the venue announcer to call the shot clock.

After a "bizarre" ending, the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers, and the arena announcer had to declare the shot clock
At Crypto.com Arena on Saturday, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 128-121. However, the game’s strange ending, caused by a malfunctioning shot clock and a contentious decision that overturned a three-pointer by LeBron James, delayed the game’s last two minutes by 23 minutes.
The newest installment in their long-running rivalry appeared to be reaching its exciting climax with under two minutes to go, as the Lakers trailed the Warriors by just four points.
The Lakers’ lead ballooned to seven points with just one minute and fifty seconds left in the game when James’ three-point attempt was disallowed due to referees ruling that he had stepped out of bounds. After endless attempts to reset the game and repair the shot clock, the officials settled on having the arena PA speaker report the remaining time on the clock at five-second intervals in real time.

James reportedly told ESPN that after the game, he had never heard that referred to in such a specific way. “It was strange, to be honest.” We lost some ground because of it.

James reportedly told ESPN that after the game, he had never heard that referred to in such a specific way. “It was strange, to be honest.” We lost some ground because of it.

Without Anthony Davis—who departed the game in the first quarter due to an injury—he tried to lead his team to victory with a total of forty points, matching his season high. He also had nine assists and eight rebounds.

Klay Thompson scored 26 points off the bench, while Steph Curry, a longstanding adversary of James’, scored 31 points for the Warriors in his return to action following a three-game absence due to a damaged right ankle.

“The conclusion was quite strange.” Following the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke with reporters. It appears that you experience clock problems on a seasonal basis. As far as I’m aware, that is the most extreme situation in which the backup unit has also failed. It’s a shame; I felt sorry for the supporters.

“It was an exciting game, and now in the final two minutes, everyone is staring at each other, confused about what to do next.”

It had been a finely poised game throughout even after the Lakers had lost Davis and his defensive nous, which allowed the Warriors to attack more from inside the paint, racking up points in that area of the court.
But the game’s “flow” was interrupted following the challenge to James’ three-pointer, Kerr said afterward, adding he would “love to see that rule go away.”
“We’re trying so hard to get everything just right at the expense of the flow. Who cares if the guy’s foot is half an inch (over) … is that worth going back 45 seconds and changing everything?”
James, however, defended the decision, adding that while it was “unfortunate what happened,” the referees “have a job to do, and they have to do it the best they can.”

Keenan Allen, a Pro Bowl wide receiver, is traded to the Bears by the Chargers for a fourth-round selection

Keenan Allen, a Pro Bowl wide receiver, is traded to the Bears by the Chargers for a fourth-round selection

Keenan Allen, a Pro Bowl wide receiver, is traded to the Bears by the Chargers for a fourth-round selection

Although many were expecting a different blockbuster trade, Chicago still managed to pull it off.
On Thursday night, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears will be getting wide receiver Keenan Allen, who has been named to the Pro Bowl, in exchange for a fourth-round selection (No. 110 overall) in 2024 from the Chargers.
The story broke originally on FOX News’ Jay Glazer.
According to Rapoport, the Bears have signed six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen. Keenan Allen turned down an offer from the Chargers to take a pay cut, but the NFL and Chicago are still waiting to see what happens with quarterback Justin Fields and the team’s first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
With Keenan Allen’s current contract, the Chargers were smacked with a $34.7 million salary cap. The other three players with cap hits of $30 million or more were pass rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, wide receiver Mike Williams, and this one. On Wednesday, the Lakers released Williams, then on Thursday, they reworked the contracts of Bosa and Mack so that they could keep them. Allen, who was surprised to learn of his impending trade just before his most recent Pro Bowl trip in February, is reportedly unwilling to bend on his salary and is thus being dealt after eleven seasons with the Bolts.
According to Over the Cap, Chicago has $56.3 million in cap space, although it’s possible that some calculations are still to come. The final season of Keenan Allen’s four-year, $80 million contract begins in April. His basic pay is $18.1 million, and he will turn 32 in the same month. A career-best 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns were part of his most impressive season, which he is now returning from.
According to the stats, Allen would be a fantastic complement to D.J. Moore, the field stretcher. Everyone is guessing that he will go with the first overall choice in the draft, but it is unclear if Fields or Caleb Williams will be the one throwing the passes.

Within a statement, Bears general manager Ryan Poles expressed his team’s immense excitement at the addition of Keenan. ” Keenan Allen’s body of work speaks for itself and we look forward to him elevating our offense.”
This is a significant turning point in Chargers history.
With 904 receptions and 10,530 yards, Allen is second only to Antonio Gates; the two are the only Chargers players to surpass 900 receptions and 10,000 yards. He ranks third in team history with 59 touchdowns.
The words “what Keenan Allen has meant to the Chargers for more than a decade cannot adequately be expressed through mere words,” stated John Spanos, president of football operations for the charges. “The towns he helped, the fans, and the innumerable teammates who became brothers with Keenan are all places where his legacy will endure. Keenan Allen is unique, and we are eternally grateful to him for everything he has done for our team, on and off the field.
Keenan Allen is now making the journey from Los Angeles to Chicago as part of a story about two teams experiencing historic transformations on campus.
